Overview

An Expert is a reusable agent in Cosmos. It packages a system prompt, user instructions, integrations, environment, model, and workers that make a repeatable engineering workflow feel like a product surface instead of a one-off prompt.

How to Engage an Expert

  • Start a Session: From the Cosmos sidebar, click New Session and select an Expert to begin chatting, coding or kicking off a task.
  • Schedule It: Set a recurring schedule and timezone for the Expert to run under Automations.
  • Automate It: Trigger your Expert using event-based integrations with GitHub, GitLab, Linear, Slack, PagerDuty, and more.

Sharing Your Expert

You have full control over who gets to use your Expert. Choose the level of access that works best for your workflow:
  • Private: Keep your Expert completely private for your own personal use.
  • Specific teammates: Invite specific team members to use your Expert.
  • Spaces: Restrict access to a specific Space so only relevant groups can use your Expert.
  • Organization: Share with your entire organization.

What an Expert includes

An Expert brings together everything Cosmos needs to run a repeatable agent workflow:
  • Identity and sharing: a display name, description, visibility, and stable Expert ID.
  • Instructions: the system prompt, optional default system prompt, user-facing instructions, and placeholder text shown when someone starts a session.
  • Model: the model the Expert uses by default, with room for managed alternatives as the workflow evolves.
  • Capabilities and integrations: the tools the Expert can use, such as web access, code hosting, ticketing, communication, or organization-specific integrations.
  • Environment: the VM, runtime environment, repositories, and resources the Expert uses when it runs.
  • Launch experience: initial messages, user instructions, and input guidance that make it clear what someone should provide.
  • Workers: the other Experts this Expert can launch for delegated tasks, plus whether it can use all available Experts as workers.
The fastest way to set up an Expert is to ask Cosmos Advisor to do it for you — and it’s strongly recommended to manage Experts by prompting the Advisor rather than hand-editing the configuration form. Describe the workflow you want in plain language and the Advisor deploys a Template Expert or designs a custom one end-to-end — picking the environment, capabilities, and triggers — rather than you configuring it by hand.
